My father spent the majority of his life trying to convince me why I should go to Arizona State University, which he lived near for over 20 years. I can't help but wonder if he knows about my acceptance into ASU this month. Either way, I can feel his pride.
As the first member of my immediate family to get a college degree, I am all too aware that I could not do this without the love and support of my husband. I'm half way there. Getting my degree while buying a house, getting married, losing a parent and grandparents and so much more has been trying at times. Joshua is so patient, kind and encouraging. And as I get incrementally closer to graduation, I can feel his pride.
Most import of all, I'm proud of myself. Getting a degree is much more difficult than it seems. Unless you have had the experience, it is hard to understand just how hard it can be at times. But, it can also be amazing to stretch your horizons. I'm looking forward to moving to ASU for Fall 2013 and eventually earning my degree - Bachelor of Family and Human Development from the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics.
